‘Absolutely San Francisco’ returns to Phoenix Theatre Sept. 24
Join sixties’ casualty Sunshine, the Homeless Lady in her musical comedy “trip” about life, love and the S.F. experience. This funny, heartfelt one-woman musical of the 2006 hit stars former Second City (comedy theater and improvisation) actress Karen Hirst, with music, lyrics, book, and direction by Anne Doherty.
Produced by Not Quite Opera, the show features the characters of an ex-billionaire; a homeless wife obsessed with marrying Gavin Newsom; a gay wine merchant recently divorced from his lover; and a Chinese immigrant souvenir shopkeeper, as they all struggle with their dreams on a mysteriously broken-down, fogged-in cable car. Music by local composers Brad Erickson, Diane Sampson, Dwight Okamura, Chuck Ver Burg; with musical arrangements by Trevor Doherty and Dwight Okamura. Absolutely San Francisco – A Musical Trip: Phoenix Theatre, 414 Mason Street (near Geary), opens Sept. 24, performances Friday–Saturday, 8 p.m., $25, 415-433-1235, www.absolutelysanfrancisco.com. |
