‘Hot Lips’ Sally Kellerman, ’60s pop legend Darlene Love take over the role of Madame ZinZanni Two veterans of the stage and screen will assume the role of Madame ZinZanni in the coming weeks at Pier 29’s zany Teatro ZinZanni.
Sally Kellerman, the Academy Award-nominee (for “Hot Lips” Houlihan in Robert Altman’s 1970 classic M*A*S*H) has been singing cabaret and jazz in clubs all over the country for the past couple of decades. Kellerman takes to the Teatro stage through Aug. 9. Darlene Love is a legend famed for her work with Phil Spector when she sang with the girl group The Blossoms. Some her hits include “He’s a Rebel,” “Da Doo Ron Ron” and “He’s Sure the Boy I’m Gonna Marry.” Love has not been on speaking terms with Spector for years. He was notorious for using all sorts of legal maneuvers to prevent her and other artists from collecting their royalties. Spector wouldn’t be attending the shows anyway – he’s otherwise engaged these days. This will be Love’s ZinZanni debut. She appears Aug. 12–30. The Randols, Eugenly Voronin, Michel Davis, Svetlana, Peter Pitfsky, Duo Artemiev, and the Teatro ZinZanni Band provide part of the alluring lunacy. Teatro ZinZanni: Pier 29, the Embarcadero (at Battery). Wednesday–Saturday 6 p.m., Sunday 5 p.m.; tickets $117–$167 (now with a choice of seating: General Admission, Premium, and Preferred) at 415-438-2668, www.zinzanni.org. |
