Guitar genius Larry Carlton sits in at the Rrazz Room, Aug. 14-16
By Bruce Bellingham
He’s a guitar player’s guitar player. Larry Carlton, a household name in the world of jazz and blues – and a three-time Grammy Award-winner (nominated 18 times) – comes to the Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko on Aug. 14–16.
It’s not so much the awards, the accolades, and the praise for Carlton that counts. It’s the level of talent that has worked with him. He’s done recording sessions with Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Quincy Jones, Herb Alpert, Dolly Parton, Steely Dan, Sammy Davis Jr., Linda Ronstadt, Bobby “Blue” Bland, and innumerable other luminaries. Over the past 30 years Carlton has recorded 30 albums under his own name. He’s sat in as session player on some 100 albums that have gone gold or platinum.
Last year Larry Carlton was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Guitar Player magazine. The ceremony was held at the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
An Intimate Evening with Larry Carlton: The Rrazz Room, Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason Street (at O’Farrell); Aug. 14–16, 8 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets $47.50
