SCENE AROUND

The dogs featured in this month’s “Scene Around” have been in foster care or shelter care for far too long. Many are bigger dogs that will require someone with time, energy and space; others have special needs. They were all chosen by their caretakers as standouts – wonderful, deserving dogs who have a lot of love and joy to bring to their perfect forever homes, possibly yours!

Name: ROSIE
Sex/Breed: Female/American Staffordshire–Boston terrier mix
Age: 2 years
Rosie is: A cuddly clownish couch potato who loves to hike and please her people

Rosie came to us from the McKinleyville animal shelter in October 2008; she was a stray and looked like she was a breeding machine for someone. Luckily she got away, and that animal shelter had very loving and dedicated volunteers who saved her life. Rosie been here ever since and she is starting to lose her zest for life – she wants a stable, loving, forever home so desperately. She has so much love to give! If you can give Rosie that perfect home, please contact:

Name: RUBY
Sex/Breed: Female/American Bulldog
Age: 11 months
Ruby is: An angel in a dog’s body with a calm, loving energy

In the first days of August 2009, it looked like Ruby’s life was over and she would be killed in the shelter. Her previous “guardians” took her there because they were not able or willing to pay for her surgery. Due to the current economic situation, no rescue groups who were approached to save her could bear the cost of the surgery either. But Kim, a woman who is a huge lover of “bully breeds,” could not stand seeing this beautiful girl die, so she became her foster mom. Ruby has severe hip dysplasia on both sides and will need a double hip replacement. The first surgery needs to be done in three months and the second within a year or two. The estimated cost is $4,000 per hip. Ruby needs a great home with someone who would give her the love and care that she needs. If you would like to adopt Ruby or help with the cost of her surgeries, please contact:
