Northside Publications to publish student writing

Northside Publications is pleased to announce plans to publish student writing pieces produced from two classes scheduled this month at the Jewish Community Center (3200 California Street). Presented by Fog City Tutoring, the two-week class is designed to help students prepare for the California State Writing exam administered in the 7th grade.

Students will explore different writing genres – persuasive, expository, narrative, and descriptive – through structured exercises and hands-on activities, and work toward a final piece in the genre of their choice. The finished writing will be celebrated and shared at the end of the workshop and published in a class booklet as well as in Northside San Francisco.

Through customized one-on-one tutoring sessions and group workshops, Fog City Tutoring helps students K–12 develop confidence and the critical-thinking skills necessary to succeed. Committed to making academic support services accessible to all, the group also works with several local nonprofits to provide low-cost tutoring for disadvantaged youth. With this in mind, some class spots will be offered free of charge and others on a sliding scale basis for families in need of financial assistance (regular cost is $295).

Classes meet daily for two weeks Monday–Thursday, July 19–29, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. for 5th–6th graders and 1-4 p.m. for 7th–8th graders. For more information, contact Johanna Wallace at 415-405-5110, johanna@fogcitytutoring.com, www.fogcitytutoring.com.
