Broadway stars honor composer Charles Strouse at 42nd Street Moon gala
By Bruce Bellingham

Some of the first ladies of the Broadway stage gathered at the Alcazar Theatre on June 30 to pay homage to award-winning composer Charles Strouse on his 80th birthday. Strouse wrote Bye Bye, Birdie ... Applause ... Annie and many more Broadway hit musicals, film scores, and other music. The party, which featured a silent auction and lots to eat and drink, also raised money for San Francisco’s venerable 42nd Street Moon theater troupe.

In attendance were Nancy Dussault, Susan Watson, Leland Palmer and the original Annie, Andrea McArdle. It’s evident by the picture that Little Orphan Annie has grown up.

42 Street Moon’s 16th season resumes with Irma La Douce on Sept. 27 at the Eureka Theatre, 215 Jackson Street..
