Christine Ebersole appears with Billy Stritch at Marines’ Memorial Club
By Bruce Bellingham
Christine Ebersole dazzles wherever she goes – and wherever she comes. And she comes back to the Commandants Room at the Marines’ Memorial Club on Jan. 18 in a brand-new show with the inimitable Billy Stritch, who is a also a Broadway legend.
Christine performed with the San Francisco Symphony at Carnegie Hall this fall. It was a smash.
Billy had a pretty good year, too. He’s Liza Minelli’s accompanist and specialty songwriter. Liza’s comeback show, Liza’s at The Palace (her tribute to her multitalented godmother, Kay Thompson) was held over in New York into this month. Billy is the musical supervisor, so he barely has time to catch his breath before he and Christine arrive in time for their show, which is part of the continuing Bay Area Cabaret series.
Gosh, it must be 20 years since I saw Billy Stritch at the Plush Room with a trio called Montgomery, Plant & Stritch. He was a standout then: funny, personable and bursting with talent.
Oh, yes. This will be Ms. Ebersole’s final Bay Area Cabaret performance before she returns to the Broadway stage in Blithe Spirit with Rupert Everet, Angela Lansbury and Kim Catrell.
Christine Ebersole with Billy Stritch: Marines’ Memorial Club, 609 Sutter Street (at Mason); Sunday, Jan. 18, 5 p.m.; tickets $25–$50, 415-392-4400, www.bayareacabaret.org
