Jane Olivor returns to the Rrazz Room for four holiday shows
By Bruce Bellingham
There was a time when Jane Olivor, who established herself in the 1980s as a world-class ballad singer, was afraid to take to the stage. She’d been hit with a string of personal tragedies and a disabling case of stage fright.
But she recovered.
In 1991, she gave a show at the Warfield Theatre. It had been eight years since she had performed publicly – the show was a sell-out. The late Phil Elwood, writing for the San Francisco Examiner, was there. He said Olivor was greeted by “a rapturous, wildly appreciative collection of obvious Olivor addicts.”
Her fans are notoriously loyal. Ms. Olivor says it can be a little unsettling.
She appeared at the now-closed Plush Room two years ago, and was triumphant. She loves San Francisco and returns to the Rrazz Room for her second appearance from Dec. 4–7 with her hits, holiday songs and some new material to show off.
Olivor devotees needn’t be told that they can expect to hear “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Come Softly to Me,” and “The Last Time I Felt Like This,” the Oscar-nominated tune that she sang with Johnny Mathis at the Academy Awards all those years ago.
Jane Olivor: The Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason (at O’Farrell); Thu.–Sat., Dec. 4–6, 8 p.m. & Sunday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m.; tickets $47.50–$55 at 866-468-3399 or www.therrazzroom.com.
