Launched in 1997 and retired in 2000, Sandy Chilewich’s award-winning RayTray gained renewed popularity when it showed up on the countertop of Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis on her popular show, Giada at Home. This summer, the RayTray is back. Like all of Chilewich’s designs, the RayTray shows what it means to think differently about materials: covering each frame is a stretch netting fabric, typically used in lingerie, that, thanks to Chilewich’s patented mechanism, creates a concave plane. The mesh material is breathable, removable and machine-washable, making the RayTray ideal for storing fruits and vegetables.
The three-tiered stainless steel RayTray is offered in green (shown here), off-white (like Giada’s), and a combo of black/smoke/off-white. On sale Sept. 8, preorders begin Aug. 16 at www.chilewich.com, $125. – S. Reynolds |
