What You Can Do
Throw a party to help fight AIDS
By Lynette Majer

It just gets easier and easier to give back and help important causes, and this one is about as effortless as it gets – simply by hosting a party, you can raise funds to support the Stop AIDS Project.
Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 is the Night of A Thousand Parties where hundreds of parties will be thrown around the Bay Area commemorating 25 years of the Stop AIDS Project, internationally recognized as a successful model of grassroots prevention and support.

You can host whatever type of party you want – dinner, cocktails, a barbeque, a potluck, or
something of your own creation. Invite your friends for the celebration, and ask them to make a donation that will help the Stop AIDS Project do just that.

If you think this sounds like a great idea, but you don’t have the time to plan a party, the folks at the Stop AIDS Project are there to help. They’ll even provide you with recipes! And not just any recipes, either, but those from Jennifer Biesty (executive chef of Scala’s Bistro and former contestant on Bravo TVs Top Chef), who is the honorary chair of the event. With Biesty’s recipes and party-planning tips, and the support of the Stop AIDS Project team, your party is sure to be a success. They will even give you tips on the many ways to ask your friends for donations.

And if all that doesn’t sound fun enough, you and your guests will receive complimentary tickets to the Dessert Gala at the Swedish American Music Hall where all the parties will come together to cap off the night with delicious desserts, drinks, music, and dancing.

So if you can’t host a party or attend one as a guest, but want to support the important work of the Stop AIDS Project, there are lots of other opportunities to help almost daily, at all hours. Stop AIDS Project volunteers are as diverse as the community they serve, and your help is welcome at fundraisers, community forums, and other outreach, education, and support programs focused on preventing the transmission of HIV. Visit www.stopAIDS.org for volunteering information or to make a donation.
